Interior Design for a Wheelchair User

This house was designed for a client whose colour preferences included various shades of blacks, greys and whites. The key element of design for the house was to ensure that each room, although predominately decorated with the same colour palette, had its own identity and unique feel. The use of different textures, such as the natural timber in the kitchen and dining room, brought warmth to the anthracite grey kitchen units. The bedrooms were designed with pops of colour, delivered through the soft furnishings, so that, rather than dominating the rooms, the furnishings helped to create a room with its own unique character.

The house was designed for disabled living as there were two wheelchair users who needed to access all areas. The house was made wheelchair accessible with a ramped entrance and low level thresholds throughout. A lift was also installed to allow for disabled access as well as wet rooms for each wheelchair user. The garden was landscaped, complete with a hydrotherapy pool, to provide the client with space to move around the garden and relax in its surroundings.
