Swansea Studio Apartments

This was a new build for the Roots Foundation charity, and was televised on the BBC1 programme DIY SOS during the 2017 Children In Need appeal week. This charity supports children and young people who are in the care system, or who have just left it, and they provide guidance on a number of topics including cookery, finance and employment.

The need here was, therefore, to provide community space which the charity could use as a place to meet young people on a weekly basis. This consisted of a communal hall space, offices, a therapy room and a kitchen. We also created four studio apartments in which young adults could live. The interiors of each of the apartments was designed to look different from the other to allow each young person to take ownership of their own unique apartment. One apartment displayed a botanical style with woven rattan textures and natural green and yellow tones throughout whilst another had dark grey walls, to create depth, with jewel-coloured furniture to pop against the walls and brighten up the room.
